VOTE: Pick Which Chicagoland High School Choir Gets To Perform With FOREIGNER At FirstMerit Bank Pavilion « 104.3 K-Hits Chicago.

Niles North High School students participated in the Illinois High School Association Solo and Ensemble Contest held March 8 in Darien, IL. All musicians earned the highest rating, a Division 1 Superior Rating. These students earned Superior ratings: Daniel Aisenberg, clarinet; Paul Oscar Benbow, alto saxophone; Grace Montague, bassoon; Eric Musielski, French horn; Emma Sophie Steger, French horn; and Juliana Tichota, marimba.

The North students are freshmen and sophomores taught by Cheryl Filipek, Band Director.

Niles Township High School District 219 musicians have been invited to perform at the upcoming Illinois Music Educators Association (IMEA) District 7 Festivals. Students from the orchestra, choir and band underwent stringent auditions to qualify for the festivals. Their performances will determine whether these musicians receive an invitation to the All-State Festival in Peoria, IL, January 22 through 25; the most prestigious high school music festival in the state of Illinois, and the highest single honor a high school musician can achieve.

These Niles North students will perform at the IMEA District VII Senior Festival at Crystal Lake Central High School on November 9:

Karli Goldenberg, flute; Daniel Aisenberg, Bb clarinet; Ashley-Faith Ferrer, contrabass clarinet; Daniel Sahyouni, percussion; Jacob Nagler, bass (principal); Robert Sanders, violin; Sally Alvarado, soprano I; Megan Crane, alto I; Michael Hennessy, bass I; Anna Hill, alto I; Roselie Mazor, alto II; Emma Steger, alto I; and Noah Zeidman, bass II.

The following NN students have been selected for the IMEA Jazz Festival which will be held at Lakes Community High School in Lake Villa on November 16:

David Liljewall, guitar; Sally Alvarado, soprano; Jazib Gohar, tenor; and Noah Zeidman, bass.

The Niles North National Art Honor Society (NAHS) lent their talents to create a beautiful mural that is on display at Westfield Old Orchard Mall in Skokie. Ten NAHS students designed the whimsical mural with painted peacocks, flowers, floating alpacas, faces and intricate abstract designs. The mural graces the windows of an empty storefront across from Anthropologie on the north side of the mall. Artists include:  Luca Ferincz, Stella Gellar, Anna Poloz, Faisal Warsani, Emily Moy, Sally Lavengood, Aisha Khan, Brittaney Chang, Serena Hocharoen and Corie Adams.

This is the thirteenth year the Niles North Fine Arts Parents and Patrons have offered grants to Fine Arts students. They are intended for private voice or instrument lessons, master classes, creative workshops/seminars, art classes, dance classes and participation in ensembles and educational opportunities.  The NNFAPP encourages and supports the students’ involvement and dedication to the fine arts. A record number of applications were submitted.

Congratulations to the following award recipients:

Niles North High School students participated in the Illinois High School Association Solo and Ensemble Contest held March 2 in Schaumburg, IL. Daniel Aisenberg received a Superior rating on clarinet, as well as the “Best of the Day” award. Ari Bearman received a Superior rating on trumpet. Erin Martin received an Excellent rating on flute. The North students are freshmen taught by Cheryl Filipek, Band Director.
