Musicians Earn Superior Ratings at IHSA Solo and Ensemble Contest

Niles North High School students participated in the Illinois High School Association Solo and Ensemble Contest held March 8 in Darien, IL. All musicians earned the highest rating, a Division 1 Superior Rating. These students earned Superior ratings: Daniel Aisenberg, clarinet; Paul Oscar Benbow, alto saxophone; Grace Montague, bassoon; Eric Musielski, French horn; Emma Sophie Steger, French horn; and Juliana Tichota, marimba.

The North students are freshmen and sophomores taught by Cheryl Filipek, Band Director.

Get ready for an evening of laughs when Harvard Law student Elle Woods brings her sense of style to the Niles North High School stage in “Legally Blonde: The Musical” on March 13 to 15 in the Auditorium at 9800 Lawler, Skokie. Show times are 7 p.m. on Friday, March 14 and Saturday, March 15; and 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 15.  A free community performance will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 13.  Tickets $10. The cast of “Legally Blonde” includes: Teresa Franks as Elle; Martin Wiviott as Emmett; Robin Wallace as Paulette; Nathan Selinger as Callahan; Ryan Loach as Warner; Nina Codell as Vivienne; Amy Hagedorn as Brooke; Margaret Selinger as Enid; and Katie Bean, Hannah Sahyouni and Lauryn Schmelzer as Margot/Serena/Pilar. The Greek Chorus includes:  Katie Bean, Camille Paskind, Nina Rickett-Green, Hannah Sahyouni, Lauryn Schmelzer and Jaquelyn Shannon. Niles North Theatre presents…

“That’s My Story!” at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12 in the Drama Performance Center at 9800 Lawler, Skokie. Tickets are $5. Call the Box Office at (847) 626-2122.

Approximately 25 delightful stories submitted from students at Jane Stenson School, East Prairie School, Hynes Elementary School, Elizabeth Meyer School, and Middleton School will go into “That’s My Story!”.

Niles North Theatre will get the show on the road with a touring production of “That’s My Story!” that will stop at the authors’ schools.

See Auroris Dance! January 24th and 25th

The 2013-2014 Auroris Dance Company presents “rOgUe” January 23-25 in the Niles North Auditorium at 9800 North Lawler, Skokie.  There will be a free community performance at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 23. Other showtimes are at 7 p.m. on Friday, January 24and Saturday, January 25.  Tickets may be purchased at the door for $10.  Tickets can also be reserved in advanced by contacting Deanna Sortino at deasor@d219.org or 847-626-2129.  The dancers will be performing different styles of dance including jazz, modern, hip-hop, tap, Broadway, ballet, and tango!

Guest choreographers include Soledad Centurion, Corey Nagel, Irfan Qurashi (NW alumni), Santo Scavuzzo III, Elmo Scott, Mary Vo (NW alumni), and Danielle Wilder. A piece choreographed by Zoe Hertz and graduate Sammy Schneider is dedicated to the memory of Niles North teacher Dan Horyn.

The company consists of 21 dancers under the guidance of Artistic Director, Deanna Sortino and Assistant Director, Danielle Wilder.  Captains are senior Zoe Hertz and juniors Sivan Eliasoff and Keenna Shah.  Seniors are Jo Cabrera, Ashley Gualberto, Jake Orlan, and Lauryn Schmelzer.  Juniors are Anna Cacho, Irene Diblich, Christan Cole Fajardo, Saadat Kaplinsky, Philip Khuu, Anna Mancia, and Allen Nou. Sophomores are Anna Hershinow, Mi Lee, Corrie Lev-Ruth, Noam Ron, Mindy Smith, and Jisha Varughese, and freshman Juliana Tichota.

Festival of One Act Plays, Wednesday 12/18 through Friday 12/20

Niles North High School will present a Festival of One Act Plays on December 18 through 20 in the Drama Performance Center at 9800 North Lawler, Skokie. Showtimes are 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. and each performance features a different rotation of plays. All plays are student-directed.

Choir and Orchestra Concert

The Niles North Choir and Orchestra will present its holiday concert Tuesday, December 17 at 7:30pm in the Auditorium.
This concert features the very popular gathering on stage by alumni, students and staff to play in the orchestra or sing Messiah’s “Hallelujah Chorus”.

NNFAPP will also be conducting a bake sale for the benefit of the students. Bring your dollars and get a treat!

BAND CONCERT, Tuesday, December 11

TONIGHT! The winter band concert will start at 7:30pm in the Niles North auditorium. Come hear the concert and symphonic bands, flute choir and the steel pan ensemble perform.

We’re also holding a Share-the Pot cash raffle! Tickets are $5 Each and 3/$10. The drawimg will take place at the end of the concert. The proceeds will benefit the Band students with 60% of the total going to band and 40% going to a single winner.  Good-luck!
