Who really controls your facebook account? You? Hmm. With the foresight only a Greek philosopher could provide, the ancient satirist Aristophanes tells of a world created by birds — who manipulate the relations between man and god. If you control all communication, you can become god-like yourself, right? Part of Niles North’s celebration of “Coming Together in Skokie” through the Greek culture, The Birds celebrates the extraordinary contribution of the ancient Greeks to contemporary American culture.

These performances will be directed by guest artist Ann Hartdegan

Performances are Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Wednesday, Feb. 13, 7 p.m., in the Drama Performance Center.

 

The Niles North Fine Arts Parents & Patrons meeting scheduled for February 13 has been cancelled. Instead of the monthly meeting, a special committee will convene this month to select Winter Arts Scholarship Grant winners.

Don’t forget our fundraiser at Noodles & Company at Old Orchard Mall on Tuesday, Jan. 15 from 2-7 p.m. 25 percent of the sales during those hours go to Niles North Fine Arts Parents & Patrons for our scholarship efforts!

See the Choir & Orchestra’s winter concert Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. in the Niles North Auditorium. The annual holiday tradition includes a rousing version of the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Händel’s Messiah where alumni are welcome to join the choir in singing!

The Niles North Band, under the direction of new band director Cheryl Filipek, will perform its winter concert Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.

Travel to the out-of-the-way town of Almost, Maine, where the icy cold of the northern region illuminates the crucial moments in relationships. Several characters face a moment of choice, and the audience is treated to moments of magic underneath the Northern Lights. Performances are at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, December 7 and 8 in the Drama Performance Center at 9800 N. Lawler, Skokie. Reserve tickets by calling the Box Office at (847) 626-2122. Tickets are $10. A free community performance will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 6. The cast of “Almost, Maine” includes:
